IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol and is a standard protocol used to retrieve email data stored on a server. IMAP has features for creating folders, tagging messages and sorting emails. The use of this network protocol is useful if email is to be accessed from several applications without fear of losing data, because emails are synchronized without deleting data on the server.
